As a self-taught painter (my last formal art class was in 7th grade), I feel unfettered by labels such as expressionist, impressionist, or cubist. In fact, I would like to leave all labels behind. However, given the Socratic love of labels in many Western societies, I would say I’m a colorist, maybe even a whimsical one. I find myself inspired by artists as diverse as Kandinsky, Marc, and Monet, and social issues from civil rights to environmental change.
